Class Treaty 2019

Each year, the class learns about te Tiriti o te Waitangi.
We learn about the importance of a treaty in the classroom, too.
We used our school values of Compassion, Excellence, Responsibility and Respect to come up with some promises to keep in the classroom.
We wrote our names on a piece of paper to show we agree with the articles on our class treaty. If someone was to not follow the treaty, the whole class becomes responsible as we are all a collective group!

As part of our classroom treaty, we wrote when we belong at school and when we feel respected at school on the orange and blue feathers.
The feathers were cut out and the stencil used to create a background for the feathers to be layered on.

We have become more compassionate towards each other and respectful because of this treaty.

Do you have a class treaty?
Is there anything in your treaty that is similar to ours?

  1. Hi Rūma Rima,

What an impressive looking Class Treaty. I love that you all came up with it together and that it is based around your school values. What do you do as a class to celebrate those that are meeting the treaty? We also have a class treaty in Rimu and have been reviewing it at least once a week. Some of us now know all 8 points of by heart.

I think your Whatu Pokeka is beautiful. It looks like a phoenix about to take off. Perhaps that is what a treaty helps us do, take what we used to be like, put the old in the fire and then allow ourselves to become a new and even more beautiful version of ourselves.

    Thank you for sharing

  2. Thank you for your positive comments about our Whātu Pokeka. We are all quite pleased with how it turned out, too!

We don't have anything in place for those who are meeting the class treaty - this is something we hadn't thought of. This could be something to plan over the next week and then begin implementing.

We look forward to more comments and sharing between the two classes. Thanks!
